Jo Mulholland is Joop Mul is in Sydney

Jo Mulholland is Joop Mul is in Sydney

The memorabilia which had to be taken from the Dutch Australian Centre (as it was first called), in Chester Hill, was located behind the Dutch shop, in Smithfield.
Grateful for the opportunity to keep this heritage, for future generations, it is generally understood, that the original idea: a museum-style building, where visitors could relax; meet-up with Dutch-Australians and examine the memorabilia representing the Dutch immigration experience was still the best.
Where to next?!?
There is a plan and there are some ideas and arguments fore and against……………………..
.
Hopefully, a solution can be found and the memorabilia housed, stored and made available for perusal, in a suitable manner.

Hopefully in an "agora" a "hub" developed and set up by as many of the "Dutch community", as possible.

Hello,

I am an Australian student currently in the Netherlands. I am doing research on expatriate cross-cultural adjustment as part of my thesis. It has been very difficult to find participants to take an online survey as part of my

The Dutch, in NSW need a ‘Hub’ where our historical archives can be kept for future reference.

The Dutch, in NSW need a ‘Hub’ where our historical archives can be kept for future reference.

Where those that are interested may come and research their ‘Dutch connections’.

A place where we can display exhibits of our art and records, photographs and perhaps verbal stories of our time here in Australia.
What was Australia like in the 50’s, or whenever we came here? How has it changed, thanks to our input?

This is a quote from a fellow Federation of Netherlands Societies, NSW, committee member, that I fully agree with.

We HAVE the memorabilia that was moved out of the former D.A.C. building, set up, beside the furniture, through the Dutch shop, in Smithfield, and that would be a valuable major part of any future reference section in such a 'hub'!

The Creation of a ‘Dutch HUB’
Over the past years a major topic of discussion has been the ‘greying’ of our membership.

“Where are we heading?”
“What will be left when we are gone?”
“What will become of our assets - be they financial or our collective knowledge of our past? “

At our meeting in May, the Board - after some consideration,  has proposed that we instigate ‘a project’.

We intend to facilitate the establishment of a  ‘Hub’ where our historical archives can be kept for future reference. Where those that are interested may come and research their ‘Dutch connections’. A place where we can display exhibits of our art and records, photographs and perhaps verbal stories of our time here in Australia. What was Australia like in the 50’s, or whenever we came here? How has it changed,  thanks to our input?

This HUB can also become a focal point of our ‘Dutch’ connection - with our past but also our future. This is a place for everyone who has an interest in our common Dutch connection.

Whilst it is still an early  undeveloped concept, we believe that approximately 100 - 150m2 would be sufficient (for now). The HUB should be located centrally, and easily accessible by both private and public transport. The HUB will be owned ‘by everyone’, held in trust for future generations.
